GUERS is a core character that Zine built from the ground up — rather than creating new characters for each release, he chooses to continuously interpret this single character, layering new narratives onto it through different colourways. The choice of a beaver is both personal and symbolic: it carries Zine’s emotional connection to Canada, the country that gave him a new life; at the same time, the beaver — a natural builder and doer — perfectly aligns with the creative intention of “building a new project from scratch.” The name GUERS itself also operates on two reading levels — in French, its pronunciation echoes the word for “warrior,” while the English reading leans closer to the texture of “gears” — these two facets correspond precisely to the character’s resilience and mechanical sensibility.
