British artist MAp-MAp’s 6 Senses Freed series is officially released. All six works are based on the 3-inch Dunny platform, but after extensive sculptural modification and hand-painting, the original silhouette has almost completely disappeared, and each piece becomes an independent character.
The “Freed” in the series title points to a kind of release. While creating this batch, MAp-MAp was dealing with work he described as “the most boring and least energetic in some time.” 6 Senses Freed became his way of hedging against that dullness: six creatures celebrating the wilder side of the senses, pushing the direction back toward something more vivid, stranger, and more fun.
In the final pieces, horns, enormous tongues, oversized eyes, wild textures, saturated colors, and quirky little personalities are scattered across the entire lineup. Each work is covered with hundreds of individually sculpted tentacles, spikes, and tactile details. This is not a quick repaint—each piece has undergone extensive sculptural modification and hand-painting until the original platform almost disappears beneath the new character.
