On September 22, 2026, at Sofcon Vol.10, a creator sofubi exhibition and sales event held at OMM in Tenmabashi, Osaka, a piece titled “Urami Tsurami” (Hapikor 2026 Custom Edition) was placed on display. It is a custom rainbow-colored metallic painted sofubi.
The creator stated on social media that the piece was completed hastily this year without prior planning. The choice of a rainbow metallic colorway was because of continuous rain across Japan, including Nagoya, which had just suffered severe flooding; he hoped the piece would bring some calm and peace to those affected.
“Urami Tsurami” is not an independent brand, but a sofubi character series under MEDICOM TOY. The character originates from artist Momoko Shishimaru’s “Possessed Tartar Series” and has continued to attract attention since the release of its first colorway in March 2026. Previously, the series released a gradient colorway inspired by summer night skies, and this rainbow metallic custom edition is a one-off variant made specifically by the creator for Sofcon Vol.10.
The naming background of the work is also worth noting. On September 8, 2026, Nagoya experienced its strongest recorded rainfall, with 104.5 mm of rain in one hour, setting a 136-year record. Multiple rivers in the city overflowed, and approximately 2,700 people were urgently evacuated. The 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, originally scheduled to open in Nagoya later that month, were thus shrouded in the shadow of extreme weather. Meanwhile, “Urami Tsurami” in Japanese means “resentment and bitterness,” taken from the song of the same name by Official Hige Dandism, whose lyrics sing of resentment and frustration that have nowhere to go.
The creator called this his “last post,” but sincerely hoped that those affected by the floods could recover. A sofubi named after “resentment” was ultimately painted in rainbow colors and delivered to the Sofcon display table.
