Luke Chueh and Munky King have revealed an early, 3d-print of their upcoming Nostalgia art toy. The figure is inspired by Chueh’s original series of paintings (2003 & 2005) of a monkey astronaut yearning for a real, honest banana instead of a freeze-dried substitute. Rather than a straight translation, the figure starts with the painting as a launching point and expands on it with a more modern, detailed portrayal featuring a realistic space suit with details previously left to the viewer’s imagination such as space shoes for monkeys. Nostalgia reminds us that not all that glitters is gold and that not all progress is perfect.
