Sega has sealed Sonic’s “fastest blue in the world” inside a porcelain vessel. To celebrate Sonic’s 35th anniversary, Japanese porcelain brand YOYOYO™ has released an Arita ware porcelain sculpture, “Infinite Blue.” It is a global limited edition of 50 pieces, each priced at 1,000,000 yen (tax included), officially released on October 9, 2026.

Arita ware is the origin of Japanese porcelain, with a history of about 400 years. The core of this work is entrusting Sonic’s signature blue to a pigment that does not fade—gosu, a cobalt-based mineral pigment painted under the glaze, producing a blue that does not fade over time. Sonic’s “fastest” is translated into “longest-lasting.”
Production is completed jointly by two Arita-based kilns. The sculpt comes from 224porcelain, combining traditional Hizen Yoshida ware craftsmanship with 3D digital technology; painting and finishing are handled by Riso Kiln—a kiln built on the site of the former residence of Ri Sampei, the father of Japanese porcelain. Its fourth-generation successor revived the underglaze blue technique, and its tableware is used by Michelin-starred restaurants such as Gaggan in Bangkok and Mugaritz in Spain.

The technical difficulty of porcelain lies in the form. Sonic’s streamlined body, floating legs, and intersecting infinity loop require the porcelain to maintain extremely thin thickness and extremely high strength. The more slender the porcelain is pulled, the more likely it is to deform and crack during firing. The team spent about 8 months repeatedly testing molds and firing conditions before the form could be achieved. A craftsman can only form 1 to 2 pieces per day, and some pieces cannot proceed past the bisque stage.

The surface is covered with three traditional Japanese patterns: Shippo’s linked circles symbolize strength, Seigaiha’s layered waves represent adventure, and Yagasuri’s arrow feather pattern echoes Sonic’s ever-forward stance. The infinity loop is outlined in red enamel—a traditional Arita overglaze enamel technique. The finished dimensions are 15.6 cm wide × 22.8 cm deep × 21.3 cm high, and each piece comes with an individual serial number and certificate.
From October 9, the actual piece will be exhibited at SONIC the Exhibition -ACROSS GENERATIONS- at Ikebukuro PARCO, where 5 pieces will be sold on-site first, on a first-come, first-served basis. On the same day, the YOYOYO official store will open its first online lottery, with the application period until October 18. A character whose sole label is speed has been made into a porcelain piece that takes 8 months to complete and can only produce one or two pieces per day. What Sonic runs through in 0.1 seconds in the game took 240 days here.
